Venus

Venus is the inner neighbour of Earth. It has an atmosphere, and about the same size and mass of the Earth. The pressure at the surface is about 90 times as high as the pressure on the Earth.

Venus is hotter than Mercury, even though Venus is nearly twice as distant from the Sun as Mercury is. Its surface temperature is more than 400°C (750°F). The temperature varies not significantly between night and day side of Venus, because Venus' very slow rotation.

Venus rotates from East to West - this is unusual, most of the planets rotate from West to East (like the Earth). Only Venus and Uranus rotate from East to West. This makes the Sun going up in the West and going down in the East when looking from Venus. A venusian day would last 117 Earth days.

Venus has its name from the Roman goddess of love.
